Relatively recently has become a hot spot for indie bands, being the home of such acts as The Decemberists, The Shins, The Gossip, The Dandy Warhols, Dirty Martini, The Wipers and the late Elliott Smith. Seattle-launched Modest Mouse and Sleater-Kinney eventually relocated to Portland, as did Stephen Malkmus.
